Karina Patel
Karina is a freelance photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her first introduction to a camera was when she was gifted a plastic Barbie film camera, as a child, with no film in it. That did not stop her though. She has been photographing since she was 15 years old and has experience with portraiture, community news and non-profit organizations. She is most passionate about giving a voice and uplifting women and diverse communities. Her work can be found in multiple publications such as the San Mateo Daily Journal, San Francisco Bay Times, and The Almanac.
She holds a B.A. in Photojournalism, where she was taught by Pulitzer Prize winner Kim Komenich at San Francisco State University. Her time as the NPPA student chapter president awarded her alma mater the 2022 Outstanding Student Chapter Award.
As a Bay Area native, her favorite hiking spots are Mori Point in Pacifica, Ocean Beach in San Francisco, and Spur Trail in Millbrae.
